client testimonial:

"You walked steadily beside me on my path of cancer treatment, Rebecca, helping me tap into and develop my strength---physical, and, especially my inner strength ---which is the ultimate gift anyone could give, something I will always cherish and be grateful for. You didn't try to 'fix it,' you know that wouldn't be possible. You had the wisdom to say to me, 'this is your fight,' and you had the skill and compassion to help me develop my strength and resiliency through it all. And I am a better, happier more fulfilled, and immensely grateful human for it!"

I believe in the body's innate wisdom and dynamic ability to heal.

I also believe our setbacks and struggles—whether from illness, injury, trauma, or other life stressors—have the potential to inform and empower us when we learn how to tune in to what our bodies have to say.

My belief in the body’s resilience is inspired by my experience

I believe in the body's innate wisdom and dynamic ability to heal.

I also believe our setbacks and struggles—whether from illness, injury, trauma, or other life stressors—have the potential to inform and empower us when we learn how to tune in to what our bodies have to say.

My belief in the body’s resilience is inspired by my experience navigating my own health challenges, as well as spending the past 16 years coaching and training clients of diverse age, size, and ability.

I work with folks who love to move, AND I work with folks who dread exercise.

My clients are teens to folks in their mid-80s.

I coach and train highly active people looking to get stronger, and prevent or recover from injury, AND I coach and train folks navigating chronic illness, joint replacement, autoimmune conditions, cancer, and numerous chronic pain conditions.

While the goals and challenges of my clients vary greatly, accessing and developing self-compassion, building strength, releasing tension, having fun, and developing a deeper sense of body connection are often the results of our work together.

I invite and encourage feedback because I view our work as a collaboration. Even though I have been training clients for years, I believe YOU are the expert of your body, and your input is a crucial part of the work we do together.

With your unique goals and abilities in mind, I create a holistic movement plan for you that helps you bridge where you are now with where you would like to be. In addition to strength and mobility exercises, and nutritional guidance, I also give you tools for assessing and working with your nervous system, which reduce tension and the chance of injury. These tools also aid recovery from your workouts, and life stress.

My Background

In 2023, I completed a mentorship under a rehab specialist where I learned the latest tools in functional neurology for assessing and addressing pain conditions not helped by conventional mobility and strength exercises.

In 2020, I completed levels 1 and 2 of Presence Based Coaching.

I became a Certified Personal Trainer in 2009, and then became a Certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner in 2013.

I have a background in martial arts, and was a student of Kajukenbo for over 13 years.

I have received certifications in spin/cycling, TRX suspension training, and mat Pilates.

Other qualifications and experience

For the past year and a half I have been involved in archival research, editing, and interviewing writers and activists for the upcoming publication of a history book about The Black Scholar Journal.

In 2022 I published a book of short essays, poems, and black and white photos, called Right Now Is Here.

You can also read some of my writing on Medium.

I have a B.A. in journalism and mass communications from NMSU,

I spent years as a community organizer working for economic justice and affordable health care with WACAN, as well as other organizations. I also waited tables for 15 years.

I am a mother and a lover of the beauty of our natural world. On weekends, you can often find me doing forest restoration as a volunteer with Green Seattle. I also recently began taking improv classes—something I find both terrifying and exhilarating.

"Working with Rebecca has profoundly influenced my practice as a dance artist and educator. She has guided me to blend my movement vocabulary with strength building and recovery methods that have drastically transformed the way I move and teach." - Kate Wallich, founder of Dance Church
